In 2016 the domes were closed for repairs. Specifically, steel mesh netting was put up to hold back and catch pieces of the crumbling structure that were in danger of falling. During that year, with the domes closed to the public, revenue for the facility dropped by about 60%.

In response to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) having moved Milwaukee County into its “High” risk classification, visitors are now required to wear masks inside all Zoo buildings beginning May 23. Milwaukee County Zoo employees who are not vaccinated are required to wear masks when interacting with the public.
How long does it take to go through the Milwaukee Domes?
We spent on average about an hour going through all three domes. It is all self-guided but everything is labeled and informative so you do not feel lost as you are looking around.

Carry-ins of alcoholic beverages are not allowed. No glass bottles or glass containers are allowed in the Zoo for the safety of all visitors. The Zoo is a smoke-free attraction.

A Photography Permit must be completed, approved by Domes management, processed and payment received to reserve time at the Domes to take photographs. All photography sessions are subject to review and are at the discretion of the Domes management.
