What is terahertz technology?
What is terahertz technology?
TPI is a completely non-invasive and non-destructive pharmaceutical analysis tool using extremely low power, ultra short pulses of electromagnetic radiation at lower frequencies than infrared (1 THz = 1012 Hz).
What is terahertz detector?
A terahertz detector is a device that receives terahertz-frequency electromagnetic radiation and converts this to a signal that can be understood by a human (figure 1). Thus, a terahertz detector is a specific form of a transducer, a device which converts information from one form to another.
What can the terahertz camera do?
Terahertz cameras offer imaging based on terahertz radiation, which can e.g. penetrate clothes. A typical application is in airport security. Other applications are in medical imaging, spectroscopy and astronomy.
Why is terahertz important?
Due to its special properties, terahertz radiation has become an important technology of the future: it can be used to detect concealed explosives or drugs and it can identify which substances are flowing through a plastic pipe.
How is terahertz radiation used?
Terahertz radiation can penetrate fabrics and plastics, so it can be used in surveillance, such as security screening, to uncover concealed weapons on a person, remotely. This is of particular interest because many materials of interest have unique spectral “fingerprints” in the terahertz range.
How is terahertz radiation detected?
Photoconductive Antennas A photoconductive antenna can be used not only for generation of terahertz waves, but also for their detection.
How do you measure terahertz?
Using this detection method, the THz electric field is sensed by measuring the change of the birefringence properties of the crystal, caused by the field itself. These changes can be measured by analyzing the polarization properties of an optical probe beam going through the crystal.
Is terahertz magnetic?
We show that magnetic response at terahertz frequencies can be achieved in a planar structure composed of nonmagnetic conductive resonant elements. The effect is realized over a large bandwidth and can be tuned throughout the terahertz frequency regime by scaling the dimensions of the structure.
Is terahertz equipment in operation now?
Terahertz nano-devices and nano-systems Terahertz (THz) technology is nowadays in great demand in a wide variety of fields, ranging from basic science such as biochemical spectroscopy, astronomy, and nano-materials science, to practical areas such as environmental science, medicine, agriculture and security.
