What is Tache Noire?

Medical Definition of tache noire : a small dark-centered ulcer that appears at the site of a tick bite and is the primary lesion of boutonneuse fever.

What causes Tache Noire?

Tache noire is the dark, red-brown stripe that develops horizontally across the eyes when the eyelids are not closed after death. It is a drying artifact that may mimic trauma (see the image below). Tache noire develops when the eyelids are not completely shut and postmortem drying occurs.
