What is a Micellar Casein?
What is a Micellar Casein?
Micellar casein is a milk protein mainly derived from dairy (bovine’s milk). Typically, bovine’s milk is comprised of two types of milk proteins with a specific ratio-whey and micellar casein. Unlike whey protein, micellar casein exits in micelle form and is present in the highest ratio approximately 79-80% in milk.
Is Micellar Casein healthy?
Micellar casein is the highest grade casein available, and it feeds your body a steady stream of muscle-building amino acids over the course of many hours. Casein is especially helpful if you have a protein shake before bed, as it aids in important muscle recovery during your sleep and prevents muscle breakdown.
What does Micellar Casein contain?
Micellar casein is the by-product of cheese-making and is the least-processed version of casein. It’s the complete casein protein featuring all five caseins: alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and kappa. It’s made by separating the casein protein from whey, fat, and lactose in milk.
Is Micellar Casein the same as casein?
Micellar casein is very similar to calcium caseinate, another slow digesting protein. Calcium caseinate is produced by using the insoluble portion of milk protein and taking it through another chemical reaction to purify it. Caseinate is less expensive than micellar casein powders, but for a reason.
What is the difference between whey protein and Micellar Casein?
Casein and whey protein are both derived from milk. They differ in digestion times — casein digests slowly, making it good before bedtime, while whey digests quickly and is ideal for workouts and muscle growth. Both contain different bioactive compounds that may boost your immune system and offer other benefits.
Is Micellar Casein dairy?
The functionality of MCC is similar to that of milk protein concentrate (MPC). However, with the majority of whey proteins removed, MCC is a unique dairy protein with heat stability above approximately 80°C.
What is wrong with casein protein?
1. Casein Causes an Addictive Response. A component in casein known as casomophins, act like opiates as they break down. As casein slowly digests, the casomorphins attach to opiate receptors in the brain and can actually cause you to become addicted to dairy products.
Is micellar casein good for weight loss?
Much like whey, casein has been repeatedly shown to increase muscle growth and strength when combined with resistance training. It may also help with fat loss.

Does micellar casein cause acne?
Casein and whey protein, which are byproducts of cheese and yogurt production, can cause acne.
