East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has revealed the cause of Friday’s fire on Eastbourne pier. Six fire engines were called to the scene at about 2.20pm. A spokesman for the fire service said the cause was deemed to be accidental and linked to work being carried out on the pier.

The pier suffered a fire on 30 July 2014 that ripped through a large amount of the central domed building. Sussex Police initially said that the fire was not to be treated suspiciously, though later the police said arson was suspected.
