How is erasable ink made?
How is erasable ink made?
It’s not actually ink at all, though. While traditional pens use inks made from oils and dyes that stain paper, erasable pens use a liquid rubber cement solution that is layered on top of the paper.
What type of ink is erasable?
Erasable pens work in two ways, rubber cement and thermo-sensitive ink. In newer erasable pens, “thermochromic ink” is used as the pigment. By default, this ink is dark but when the ink is heated up, such as from the friction of an eraser, it turns clear to make it seem as if the ink was erased.

How do you make FriXion ink permanent?
If your pen doesn’t seem to be writing, try to remember whether or not the pen may have been over-exposed to heat. If so, try putting your pen in the freezer until it sufficiently cools. After taking your pen out of the freezer and letting it readjust to room temperature, it should write again like new.
Who invented erasable ink?
Erasable ink was launched in 1979 by Paper Mate in Erasermate/Replay series (later also in the Eraser Max) after a decade of research. The ink in these pens is erased much more like pencil — the ink bound quite lightly to the paper, so could erase reasonably well using a medium-soft eraser.
What is FriXion eraser made of?
Made of hard rubber, this eraser works for any FriXion pens, including FriXion gel ink pens, highlighters, and markers.
What is the principle behind FriXion pen?
The way it works is that when you rub the ink with a hard rubber eraser, that eraser creates heat. The heat then causes the ink’s compounds to activate which neutralizes the pen’s dye. Thus making the ink erase.
