While the return of nighttime shows at Disney World is paused for the ongoing global pandemic, Disney went ahead an officially announced that Rivers of Light would not be returning to Disney’s Animal Kingdom – it was permanently canceled.
When did Rivers of Light Open?

Rivers of Light finally soft opened on February 10, 2017, with the official opening taking place a week later on February 17. The show’s live cast was removed after September 29, 2018 as a result of budget cuts throughout Walt Disney World.
What is replacing Rivers of Light?
Don’t expect Disney to give up on that amphitheater seating it built along the Discovery River for the show. Eventually, when safety and budgets allow, Disney will create a new nighttime production for Disney’s Animal Kingdom. And you can bet that it will include Disney IP from the start.

The tumble Monkeys and flying birds are returning to the Harambe Theatre as the ‘Festival of the Lion King’ at Disney’s Animal Kingdom returns on July 16 2022. The modified ‘A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King’ will close at the end of July 4, with the ‘Festival of the Lion King’ beginning July 16 2022.
