Sean Carter Speaking on this book alone, apart from the trilogy or series because I haven’t read them all yet, there is romance. It certainly doesn’t take center-stage for most of the book but the romance that is there is very true-to-life.

Due to his illegitimate birth and his lack of memory before the opening of the book, Fitz never learns his exact age. However, his estimate is that he was brought to his uncle Verity when he was about six years old. In the fourth of the books, Fool’s Errand, Fitz is approximately 35.

Are all Robin Hobb books connected?

Yes, the books are related, although some more than others. In the last trilogy characters from all stories meet together, although Fitz remains the main character and the narrator – the main characters from the “Rain Wild” series are set as a second plan characters.

Can I skip the Liveship traders?

You can skip it. I read Tawny Man first and didn’t really have any problems understanding what was going on. You will have a better understanding of things like the Others’ beach and some Elderling stuff after reading Liveships. There are Liveships spoilers in Tawny Man.

Verity uses the Skill to switch bodies with Fitz and, in Fitz’s body, conceives Dutiful with Kettricken. Despite the fact that Dutiful was conceived with Fitz’s body, Fitz considers Dutiful Verity’s son in all other aspects. Only Fitz and the Fool know the truth of Dutiful’s conception.

Liveship Traders is a trilogy about a family of Bingtown merchants who possesses a Liveship, a sentient ship that can access the Rain Wild and their legendary wares. It’s the second series of the Realm of the Elderlings (after the Farseer and before Tawny Man, Rain Wild Chronicles and Fitz and the Fool).

Do you have to read Liveship traders?

Nope! I read Farseer then Tawny Man, and I didn’t have any trouble. But, when I read Liveship Traders after it really opened my eyes and added a lot to the experience, so you should read it at some point for sure.
