Tien valiantly fights and defeats a Saibaman when the Saiyans arrive, and does battle with Nappa, during which Chiaotzu sacrifices himself in vain, causing Tien Shinhan to put all his effort into one final attack, which fails. Tien Shinhan dies a hero’s death, but is revived later by Porunga.
Why is Tenshinhan called Tien?
Toriyama said that although Tien is strong and cool, he based his name on a well-known Chinese food just to be “silly.” Tien is loosely based on Erlang Shen from Journey to the West, a three-eyed taoist deity who first appears as an adversary of Sun Wukong, later becoming his ally and rival.

After having the Kamehameha used against him, Roshi concedes the match, but not before giving Tien a warning against turning evil. The last fight is versus Goku. After finding out Chiaotzu is rigging the match at his master’s behest, Tien orders them to stop, thus heeding Master Roshi’s words to turn good.
Why did yamcha stop fighting?
Yamcha never quite recovers after dying during the Saiyan arc, with his impalement at the hands of Dr. Gero forcing an early retirement. Yamcha’s still present for the Cell arc and the second act of the Buu arc, but he never fights again following the Android invasion.
